Started working today... so you know

Yes I did, and I got to Chic-Fil-A at 3 or 4 minutes till 7am.
Got in, and everything was ready, we (us four new people there)(yes I said four) sat down and watched several short videos, then had a tour of where everything was, then sat back down and watched more... before I knew it two hours had passed, and we were still watching, yes they were very entertaining and informational!
One major point I would like to leave you with today though, is this, your Own words and attitudes can dramatically affect the atmosphere of the place you are working, going to school, living, walking, driving, eating, or even just relaxing or hiking. (or for myself, Juggling.)
I learned this because I heard someone else talking about Chic-Fil-A last night, and what they said was this, "Chic-Fil-A just has a different feel to it than other places, its so nice!" And today in training I found out exactly why. Next time you go to a CFA listen carefully to every word they say; when you are waiting in line, rather than "NEXT!" you will hear "I can serve the next guest!" usually along with a hand up or something to tell you where they are. In saying this, being enthusiastic, and outgoing and proactive in serving you, you will feel more at home, more like they really do want you there, they really do want to feed you the best chicken sandwich in the world.
After that, rather than hearing, "For here or to go?" you will hear, "Will you be dining in with us today?" Notice, "with us" and "dining" they are bringing you closer to themselves and using words of respect as to what you are doing.
This whole list could go on and on, but its not going to, I believe I have said enough to make a point.
And this is it, when you treat others like they are the life of your life, like they are the reason you do what you do, and you show them that you really do enjoy serving them, there is no greater respect and no better way to bring out the best in people, no better way to make people happy.
The things you say, and the way you say them, and the reason you say them, will sink into people's hearts, you will totally change someones life just by speaking with words of respect, joy, peace, and life.
You will change everything around you, you will attract people like Chic-Fil-A does.
To be pleasant, to show respect and attention to everyone, not just those that stand out.
Its awesome.
That is the secret behind Chic-Fil-A, we do everything knowing that everyone is watching, we do everything knowing that there are perfectionists in the world that wish to put that on everyone else they encounter, do everything knowing not everyone is forgiving, and you will be happy to know that in all the years Chic-Fil-A has existed, they haven't killed anyone yet! And considering there are around 5,000 deaths by food poisoning and whatnot from something they ate per year, to have a company that hasn't had ONE as a result of their food, is awesome.
And that is where I work.
Come see me!

  1. Hey Ben,
I love your blog. This post is so true. Attitudes you portray to others will rub off on them. If you are nice to someone, they will want to be nice to you, putting them in a good mood towards everyone they encounter. BTW the CFA in my city is the exact same way, they also play Christ-Glorifying music.

  2. Such a truth! It works to charm those who may be antagonistic toward you, too. Love covers a multitude of sins.

  3. I'm glad to know that someone is reading it! And that you enjoy it, agree with it, and understand it.
And now, I am totally enjoying working at Chic-Fil-A, far beyond just learning the language.
(btw, Joey, that is how you will find every CFA, all have the same exact philosophy to them)
