I woke up at exactly 7am this morning, already had my cloths picked out the night before and they were hanging all together in the closet, I grabbed them and took a quick shower, by 7:30 I was ready to leave. All morning I was excited to finally go to Bible College, and now I finally was on my way, by 7:45 I was there! I went straight, as directed, to the break room to get my ID and time card, then into the auditorium for an hour of worship! I'll tell you for sure, worship at a Bible College where everyone has their heart set on knowing God and glorifying God is totally different from your home church. People were jumping up and down, no one was ashamed of singing and making a truly joyful noise to the Lord. By the end of worship we were all very ready to hear what God had for us.
After a quick break to walk around and meet people and get a drink, we all returned to the auditorium and Andrew Wommack took the stage and began speaking.
First he let all of us first year students know that his totally emotionless face was completely normal and that we would have to get used to it. And then he went on to let us know that he really was very excited for this year (with that same emotionless face). The main purpose of his message was to let us know what we were getting ourselves into and why this school exists. Now the way I say it wont be identical to the way he would say it, but the meaning remains. We as students are getting ourselves into a full time discipleship that will totally prepare us to disciple others. The reason the school exists is because the church is not doing its job. Plain and simple. The church for a long time now has focused on the wrong thing, rather than "making disciples of all nations" it has "made converts of many nations". The difference is, converts are just baby Christians, disciples are matured Christians that know who they are in Christ and how to live. Take this example that he gave, would you have a child and then just throw it in the corner and say "oh well if its really human it will live" well I would hope that all of you would say 100% no, but to just convert someone and then let them go off without discipling them is just the same, "oh well if he is really Christian he will know how to live and who he is now and what to do." I would even go as far as to say that the point is NOT to convert them, but as Jesus said, it is to Disciple them! To train them how to live according to the scriptures, to walk as Jesus walked and live as Jesus lived. The thing is, you can't actually walk as Jesus walked or live as He lived unless you are born again, without Him in your life it is 100% impossible! So, in the process of discipling a person will either give up or be born again and go on in a powerful life with God. The Christian walk is NOT just a little prayer! It is a total huge commitment! Jesus told the rich young ruler, "go sell everything you have and give the money to the poor and THEN come and follow me" He told us in Luke chapter 14 to count the cost of following Him! He spoke of leaving your mother and father and brothers and sisters and wife and children for the sake of the kingdom of God. This walk is all or nothing, you are either there or you are not, but don't get me wrong, we all need to be discipled, we have to really count the cost, don't say "yes" and then when the time comes realize that it is to much for you, don't be the builder that couldn't finish building.
A very interesting thing that he brought up is that if one Christian began discipling another person and stayed at it for six months straight, then, by the end of the six months, there would be two Christians, not to impressive huh? Well, then for the next six months, those two disciple another two for another six months, but after a year all you have is four Christians? Then for the next six months, those four disciple four more, and so on, if it went on for only sixteen years, over four billion people would have been discipled and could be truly committed Christians. Pretty amazing huh? and only another six months and more than the world's population, over 8 billion could be. Now take into consideration that not everyone will stick with it, but that doesn't change a whole lot, even if it took thirty years to get that many people that really knew God, not just went to church each Sunday... would it not be worth it to do it right???
So then, after much great teaching, mostly built around that, (though if you have ever heard Andrew Wommack, its far more depth than you can see here,) we went back to the break room for cake and fellowship, I met lots more people and waited there until it was time to go to my Job interview at Chic-Fil-A which... just so you know, went very well and I expect I'll hear from the in a few days!
Now I'm home and whenever my roommate gets back I'll get my car oil changed!
God Bless,
Be encouraged,
Disciple and be discipled,
etc...

Congrats on getting into bible collage. That was the easy part. I'm sure you didn't go all the way to Colorado to learn the theory about making disciples. I think that one of the problems we (and I include all university students) have is that we go to school and learn the theory. Granted, the theory helps us to apply but as one man said, "What you know is of little value compared to what you do."
ReplyDeleteGrace and Peace bro
While it is true that actions speak louder than words, without knowledge you can't do anything, in Isaiah I believe... it says "My people perish for a lack of knowledge" and so many times I've seen recently that Peter and paul say (as in 2 Peter 1:2) Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. Grace and peace is ours in abundance through the KNOWLEDGE (hint, a key word, not that you wouldn't get it, but I have to point it out) of God and Jesus our lord.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, stats mean nothing unless you put action to them.
